Maria Chapa started training in Soo Bahk Do in 2014 under Guinn Sa Bom Nim. She began training, like many students, because her best friend was a student. She soon fell in love with Soo Bahk and has continued to train while pursuing interests in music, band, and attending A&M for a Bachelors in Neuroscience with the goal of becoming a doctor one day.

Maria obtained her Jo Kyo Certificiation (certified assistant instructor) as a Red Belt and began assisting in classes while preparing for her Cho Dan test. She and Biefeldt Jo Kyo Nim alternated teaching the Gups while the Dans were training directly with Guinn Sa Bom Nim and Underwood Kyo Sa Nim. She earned her Cho Dan (1st Degree Midnight Blue Belt) in July of 2022, and dedicates as much time to training and teaching as her studies allow for!.
